On March 26, 2012, Steven Getzoff, along with representatives of the lodging and aquatic communities, met with President Obama’s Staff to discuss issues arising out of the American With Disabilities Act 2010 Standards for Accessible Design and specifically as they pertain to the pool and spa sector. Mr. Getzoff represented the Association of Pool and Spa Professionals as well as several leading manufacturers of swimming pool lifts at this meeting, in an effort to have the Department of Justice further extend the deadline for compliance by existing pools, and to allow portable lifts.

As a result of this meeting, and additional lobbying efforts, the DOJ has extended the compliance date for existing pools and spas for 60 days, with a possible further extension of 120 days. LESTER SCHWAB KATZ & DWYER, LLP continues to be at the forefront of this issue.
